For the first time in over 10 years, Atletico Madrid may have a new goalkeeper between the sticks for new season, with Jan Oblak’s future no longer assured.

According to Relevo, Oblak is open to leaving Atleti in the summer for a “new experience”. The situation has been discussed by both parties, and club officials have agreed that they won’t stand in the 31-year-old’s way, should an enticing offer be received.

Oblak joined Atleti from Benfica in the summer of 2024, and he has been their first-choice ‘keeper ever since. If he does leave, replacements have already been lined up, with the leading candidate being Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili, who has also been linked with the Premier League in recent weeks.

Oblak has been slowly declining in the last few years, so it does make sense for Atletico Madrid to cash in now, provided that an acceptable offer is received. If they can manage to replace him with Mamardashvili, it would be a very shrewd piece of business.
