Brett Pesce Out 2-4 Weeks, Svechnikov’s Debut ‘Around The Corner’
Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

The Carolina Hurricanes received both good and bad news on the injury front, as they prepare for their home contest against Seattle on Thursday.

Brett Pesce underwent successful surgery for a lower-body injury on Wednesday, according to Hurricanes PR. He is expected to miss 2-4 weeks.

This news comes after Rod Brind’Amour announced after practice that the injury was ‘much worse’ than initially feared, but Pesce will now likely return to the lineup before December.

Pesce suffered the injury in Carolina’s loss against Seattle last Thursday and has missed the previous two contests.

This likely means Dylan Coghlan will remain in Raleigh through his stint out of the lineup, and the defensive pairings will change for the next couple of weeks.

On a positive front, forward Andrei Svechnikov’s debut is ‘around the corner’, according to Brind’Amour. Svechnikov was once again without a yellow non-contact sweater on Wednesday, and there is even a possibility he makes his debut on Thursday.

“When he gives us the green light, we’ll definitely chuck him in there. We’re counting the days,” said Brind’Amour during his media availability. “Whether it’s tomorrow or the next game [against San Jose], I think we’re definitely right around the corner.”

Much like Svechnikov, Freddie Andersen is expected to return to the ice soon. Andersen exited in the first period against San Jose after taking a puck to the mask, and had missed three straight games.

Brind’Amour expects the 34-year old netminder to ‘give it a go’ tomorrow and make his fourth start of the season.

Both Antti Raanta and Pyotr Kochetkov joined Andersen in practice on Wednesday, but a corresponding move seems likely ahead of tomorrow night’s game at PNC Arena.

The Hurricanes will welcome the Kraken to Raleigh, as puck drop is set for 7:00pm.
