Giants Hold 14-9 Halftime Lead Over Commanders

The Giants defense gave the offense another gift after forcing another Washington turnover. On that play, linebacker Micah McFadden wrapped up Washington tight end Logan Thomas, and cornerback Cor'Dale Flott came in and punched the ball loose. 

Safety Xavier McKinney recovered it to give the Giants the ball on the Commanders' 45-yard line, the Giants' best field possession.

This time, the Giants offense cashed in. Quarterback Tommy DeVito connected with running back Saquon Barkley on a wheel route for a 24-yard touchdown pass to give the Giants a 7-0 lead and, more importantly, the Giant's first first-quarter touchdown this season.    

Washington finally got on the board on their third possession of the game on a 23-yard field goal by Joey Slye after the Giants' defense forced two incomplete pass attempts on second and third downs.

The Giants made it 14-3 on DeVito's second touchdown pass of the game, this one a 40-yard strike to receiver Darius Slayton on 3rd-and-1, the second third down conversion by the Giants on that drive.  

Washington closed the scoring gap on Sam Howell's 14-9 on Sam Howell's 8-yard touchdown scramble, Slye missing the extra point. The touchdown play resulted in a melee between both teams, resulting in the ejections of Washington receiver Curtis Samuel and Giants cornerback Cor'Dale Flott. 

DeVito is off to the best start of his career, having completed 14 of 19 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns. He's also been sacked six times so far in this game.

The Giants have zero rushing yards on eight carries. But in the passing game, receiver Darius Slayton has four receptions out of five targets for a team-best 82 yards and a touchdown.
